Whitburn Academy New Work Experience Programme
A new, flexible version of the traditional Work Experience Programme is being piloted by West Lothian Council. Whitburn Academy will be involved in this new model. The pilot aims to better meet the career intentions of young people by placing them into a work experience programme which is tailored to their skills and career aspirations.
It is also designed to meet the requirements of the business community, who provide work experience opportunities for young people. The new Extended Work Experience Programme will run alongside the current programme which allows schools and students some degree of flexibility to organise self-found placements within S4-S6.
Pupils who are planning to leave at the end of S4 will benefit from this new Work Experience model, they will be supported into a Work Placement that best fits their needs and future career aspirations. They will also have the opportunity to further develop the key skills used in classroom learning. Employers will help Work Experience pupils as they plan to use those skills in a career environment.
